Course Outline

The course involves the existing FAGIN
Directors who will be the resident tutors.
The structure of the programme allows study
at Diploma and Masters level. The programme
consists of taught modules that are designed
to integrate the basic building blocks of the
craft of Forensic Medical Practice within a
conceptual framework. The course enables
students to understand how the issues in
forensic practice are referable to higher
principles of law and ethics impinging upon
civil society. It also enables them to appreciate
the complex cross-currents of contemporary
social attitudes within what is often a politically
and emotionally charged area.
Course Content

Provides advanced, systematic and critical
knowledge of Forensic Medicine and
Bioethics, including the varying perspectives
on key current issues, in a context of research
and rigorous analytical questioning.
It develops an understanding of the
relationship between ideas and concepts in
medical ethics and law, and an ability to apply
them discriminatingly to issues and dilemmas
encountered in the workplace and in practice.
It provides a formal, comprehensive, broadly
based and forensically specific training in
the assessment of evidence and research
methodologies, and in the submission of high
quality commentaries and dissertations built
on these foundations.
It is designed to inculcate a spirit of selfdirected
enquiry and life-long learning and the
capacity for reflective, independent decision
taking within the work setting.
